Data Engineer - Newcastle - £65,000

I am working with a well-established consultancy in Newcastle who are looking for a Data Engineer to join them and play a pivotal role on a current client project. You will work closely with another Data Engineer who is currently working on the project and will be responsible for developing robust ETL solutions.

You will join a company who although have a close-knit family feel operate on a remote basis and are continuing with their expansion plans heading into 2025. You will work closely with other members of the project teams such as business analysts, project managers and developers and will be tasked on delivering solutions for the client in a timely manner. Working within a cloud environment you will use your experience with the Azure tech stack to help the client better us their data and to help to deliver key insights to the business.

Some of the responsibilities for the role include

* Design and develop robust data pipelines and ETL processes
* Create queries to extract data from various sources and fine tune queries to ensure optimal performance of ETL processes
* Design and create data models and provide analysis on current data architecture providing ideas for improvement
* Carry out some basic reporting using BI tools to provide stakeholders with performance against key KPIs

To be successful in this role you will have.

* Experience creating ETL solutions using Azure Data Factory
* Strong SQL experience for extracting data from sources as well as experience tuning queries and database structures
* Data modelling experience
* Experience creating custom visualisations with tools such as Power BI would be beneficial

* Experience testing the integration of components to ensure the different parts of our applications interact correctly
* Experience automating regression & unit testing

My client are a leading Data Partner and consultancy looking for an experienced senior data engineer with skills in Microsoft Fabric, the Azure Data Platform and Python to join their expanding team in a role which encompasses technical know how and a client-facing skillset.

Role and Responsibilities

* Possess a wide range of data engineering skills, with a focus on having delivered in Microsoft Azure

* Experience working as a data engineer to develop performant end-to-end solutions in a collaborative team environment.
* Delivering high-quality pieces of work, proven ability to escalate problems to client / senior team members where necessary and propose possible solutions.
* Support building the Consulting practice through contribution to ongoing initiatives. This can include contributing to knowledge-sharing activities, and data services.
* Demonstrated success in delivering commercial projects leveraging the above technologies.
* Experience overseeing junior staff, including mentoring, reviewing work, and ensuring project alignment with organisational goals and standards.

What do I need to apply for the role

* Strong in Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse and Fabric.
* Expertise in SQL and Python.
* Experience working with relational SQL databases either on premises or in the cloud.
* Experience delivering multiple solutions using key techniques such as Governance, Architecture, Data Modelling, ETL / ELT, Data Lakes, Data Warehousing, Master Data, and BI.
* A solid understanding of key processes in the engineering delivery cycle including Agile and DevOps, Git, APIs, Containers, Microservices and Data Pipelines.
* Experience working with one or more of Spark, Kafka, or Snowflake
